GATE M: MEETINGS

Step 3 of 5 · Meetings

Meetings: the whole game is meetings and closing.

Meetings is the third step of the NOMAD model: creating a steady flow of sales conversations through outreach and closing them with a two-call process. The first call is discovery (30 to 45 minutes), the second is presentation and close (45 to 60 minutes). For a new marketing agency, meetings and closing are the whole game.

Why meetings decide everything

A great niche and a strong offer are worth nothing if nobody hears about them. In the beginning, nobody will come to you by themselves. You have to start conversations. The book is direct about this: the whole game is meetings and closing. Everything else in the first months supports that.

Micha learned this the hard way. After his marketing agency went live he signed a first client, then took a freelance contract when money ran low and stopped doing outreach. When the contract ended, his pipeline was empty. Later he went two months with sales calls and zero deals. The lesson was not to work on something else. It was to keep the meetings flowing, improve the process and stop focusing on single outcomes.

Four sources of conversations

There are four practical ways to fill your calendar. Use them in this order, because each one is warmer than the next.

  • Your warm network: former colleagues, managers, clients and friends in or near your niche.
  • LinkedIn outreach: connect with decision makers in your niche and start relevant conversations.
  • Cold calling: uncomfortable for most people, and therefore underused and effective.
  • Cold email: scalable once your message and list are right.

The four-line message

Long outreach messages get ignored. The book uses a four-line formula that keeps every message short and relevant. Line one is a relevant observation about the prospect or their market. Line two names the problem you see. Line three states the outcome you help businesses like theirs achieve. Line four is a simple invitation to talk, not a request to buy.

The formula works because it is about the prospect, not about you. It shows you did your homework, speaks their language thanks to your research calls and asks for something small. Test variations, measure replies and keep what works.

Call one: discovery

The discovery call takes 30 to 45 minutes. Its only job is to understand the prospect: their situation, the problem, what it costs, what they tried before, what success looks like and how decisions are made. You ask, you listen and you take notes. You do not present.

Good sales is not pushing. It is asking good questions and listening carefully. Many people who think they hate selling discover that this kind of conversation feels natural. At the end of the call, if there is a fit, you book the second call and explain that you will come back with a concrete plan.

Call two: presentation and close

The second call takes 45 to 60 minutes. You start by summarising what you heard, so the prospect feels understood. Then you present your named system as the answer to their specific problem, walk through how it works, handle questions and ask for the decision.

Splitting the process into two calls gives you time to prepare a tailored plan and gives the prospect time to think between calls. It also makes the process repeatable, which matters later when freelance setters book the calls and a closer runs them.

Process over outcome

After two months without deals, Micha changed how he looked at sales. He stopped needing each call to close, finally priced his offer right, kept practising and focused on running the process every day. The desperation disappeared from his calls, and deals followed. His own numbers are shared in the book as his story, not as a promise of results.

That shift is the real lesson of the Meetings step. You control the number of messages, the quality of your questions and how well you follow up. You do not control any single yes. Measure what you control.

Measure the right numbers

Keep a simple daily scoreboard: messages sent, replies, discovery calls booked, calls held, second calls booked and deals closed. Those numbers tell you where the process leaks. Few replies mean the message or the list needs work. Many discovery calls but few second calls mean your questions or your fit are off. Many second calls but few closes mean the offer, the price or the presentation needs attention.

Review the scoreboard every week and change one thing at a time. Over a few months, this turns sales from something that feels personal and emotional into a system you can improve, and later hand over to a setter and a closer.

How the program helps with meetings

In the First clients phase of the Out of Office Forever Program, your outreach is set up with you, you get the message structures and the two-call sales script, and your real sales calls are reviewed with concrete feedback. Someone keeps you consistent until your first clients are signed.
